Defy Gravity

Caroline Myss själv säger bl.a.:

DEFY GRAVITY: INTRODUCING A NEW APPROACH TO HEALING
BY CAROLINE MYSS
The inspiration for my latest book, DEFY GRAVITY, came from having witnessed people actual heal in my workshops in which I taught the information of my previous book, ENTERING THE CASTLE. By heal, I mean that one or two people would experience a complete shift in the status of their disease state. One person suffering from chronic arthritis, for example, experienced a spontaneous healing of pain and much of the stiffness in her hands and feet was released. While her joints remained disfigured, the inflammation and pain was gone and did not return.
These healings occurred during a number of workshops, not just one. But they were consistent in that at least one healing happened at each workshop that was either spontaneous or initiated there and would continue over the course of the following months. Prior to teaching the material in, ENTERING THE CASTLE, which is a book based upon the mystical writings of St. Teresa of Avila, a Catholic mystic from the 16th Century, I had never experienced healings. But then I had never before risked teaching about mysticism, grace, the nature of the soul, and the power of prayer. As odd as this may seem, given that we think of ourselves as a spiritually conscious society, such topics as prayer and the soul actually tend to make people uncomfortable. Or at least that has been my experience. As a result of this general discomfort, I avoided these subjects throughout my career and instead specialized in teaching "energy medicine" or themes revolving around the human energy system and archetypes.
I was drawn to the subject of mysticism, however, because in my opinion we are living in a type of "Mystical Renaissance." More and more people are deeply in search of the meaning and purpose of their life. Such a quest is not an ordinary one, such as searching for a new career. Rather, the search for one's deeper purpose in life is usually an indication that a person is in the midst of a spiritual or life transition. Sometimes, a person may even be in the midst of a spiritual crisis. Regardless of which of these reasons motivates a person, in the end, the truth is an awakening is taking place. Such an awakening frequently hints at the beginning of a mystical life emerging in a person - not to be confused with the mystical lives of saints and those drawn to the monastery. Contemporary mystical experiences express themselves in far more subtle ways but nonetheless equally authentic. People are born with a fundamental need to find a power much greater than the ordinary world they dwell in and they long to realize that their lives have significance and meaning. That drive is inherent within each person and that drive is fundamentally a call to experience the mystical nature of the Divine, however one achieves that.
I saw this inner process as the essential connection for the profound experience of healing that I witnessed in people. I realized that healing - genuine healing - is, in truth, far more of a mystical experience than one generated by what we know or what we feel. By mystical, I mean that the cause of one's healing is generated by and through grace, transcendent of "reasons", and beyond a thinking pattern dominated by ideas such as "deserve" and "blame." If anything, the human intellect and emotional nature were often more problematic to the healing process in that they were the source of one's wounds and required as much healing as the physical body. Relying upon a wounded mind and heart to challenge cancer or any other serious illness is just not a formula for success.
The more I investigated the holistic approach to healing, the more I realized that it relied almost fully upon a rational and reasonable approach to illness, focusing on finding why things happen as they do to us. Certainly that approach is successful to a degree in so far as physical medicine is concerned. But when it comes to the vast complexities of the human being, namely our emotional and mental well being, as well as our spiritual nature, the idea that one "reason" can be found for why we suffer as we do, that approach simply is inadequate. Illnesses - or any life crisis - are the result of many cycles that we set in motion in life, not just one choice made somewhere in our past. And some of these cycles are conscious, some are unconscious, some were set into motion through positive choices, others through negative, and some through biological decisions. An illness or a crisis happens when several of these cycles we set into motion in our life converge, creating an explosive effect, a moment of great change.
Healing is rarely accomplished by trying to undo these cycles that you have set into motion. In fact, you can't undo them. Healing requires the transformation of who you are in the present moment and a decision to discover the person you are right now more authentically than you have ever known yourself before. Rather than go backward, the direction you move is inward.
DEFY GRAVITY is a book about accomplishing precisely this goal - discovering the deepest forces and inner powers of your nature as expressed through your seven inner graces and your seven shadow passions. You have both within you. For me, these forces represent the point at which we set the wheels of creation in motion in our life. These are the impulses of our soul that we breathe into every choice we make, setting into motion endless cycles of cause and effect. And it is through understanding this level of our power that we truly transform our lives.
I will be teaching DEFY GRAVITY on a tour through Scandinavia beginning September 10. Please contact my website:www.myss.com for details. I hope you'll join me at a lecture.
